Founded in 1996, Call2 is one of the oldest services we have reviewed in this category. As with all international call services in this category, customers of Call2 have the opportunity to rack up huge savings on calls to loved ones, friends and family regardless of where they are in the world. With up to 95% savings to be had (compared with regular providers) when using Call2, and per-minute tariffs starting at just a few pence per minute, this service is a great choice if you’re looking for a flexible, user-friendly and cost-efficient service to help reduce your phone bills.

Call2 prides itself on being one of the most varied and flexible services on the market today. Customers can choose from eight different ways to make low-cost international calls, all with the same superior quality. Although we won’t consider in-depth each of the services (as many are variations on a theme), the basic services include VOIP and web-telephony and a great callback service that helps connect you to international numbers wherever you are. Customers can also make calls through the Call2 website itself, or using one of a number of great applications that can be downloaded to a number of smartphones (including iPhone, Blackberry and Android) to allow customers to make calls even quicker. Similar apps can also be downloaded to your computer desktop, as well as to your outlook account, helping you make calls straight from your email account in a fully-integrated way.

One of the more interesting elements of Call2 is the ‘callback’ style service, something that many of our readers may not be familiar with. This lets you connect a call by either calling Call2 directly and entering the number you wish to be connected to, or sending an SMS to Call2 with the same information. Shortly afterwards, Call2 will return your call and connect you to the number you wished to dial, ensuring that the call is managed through Call2 and, thus, is subject to the great per-minute rates advertised on the site. Regardless of the method of connection you choose, all calls through Call2 are prepaid using an easy-to-manage prepay account, helping you to manage how much you’re spending (and saving) with ease.

Although Call2 does have a range of great features that help customers make cheap international calls in a number of ways, along with the sort of flexibility we like to see in services like this, it is notable that the per-minute rates at this service are a little higher than others we have reviewed in this category. While the difference is generally only pennies per minute, the difference is substantial in many cases and over the course of a month or year could add up to a large difference in costs between services. If you’re looking for a quick, easy-to-use service for one or two international calls per week (or even less), Call2 could still be perfect for you.
